Plants are critical to maintaining functioning ecosystems, and often constitute what we think of when we think of a “habitat”. New England Wild Flower Society has conserved and promoted native plants in New England for over 100 years, and continues to do so through applied environmental conservation efforts, including the use of ex-situ conservation, or seedbanking of seeds and genetic materials. The Society’s conservation staff member and seed bank coordinator, Michael Piantedosi, will discuss current efforts to restore native New England habitat – one seed at a time.
